Step 1- Go to Geocaching.com and setup your free account, so you'll be ready with your new Username to sign the log.
Step 2 - If you have a smart phone, you can download a geocaching app. C:geo is the one I use. You can look up caches ahead of time amd save them to your device. Then, if you're in an area with no signal, you'll still be able to read descriptions, hints, logs from other users, and use your phone gps signal to find the cache.
Step 3 - No smart phone? You can load coordinates into you handheld gps and track them down that way. It's always easier if you have a map displayed.
Step 4 - When you find a geocache, be stealthy. People who don't cache sometimes trash them. Sign the paper log and trade items, if you like. Standard is to leave something of equal value to what you take.
Step 5 - When you get to a place with Web connection, go to your geocaching.com account and log the cache that you found. Cache hiders love to hear the story of your trip.
