Narrative: We are meeting in Jefferson 136 Ferry St, Jefferson, OR at 9:00. Take out is at the Buena Vista County park, 44.768401, -123.148027, just before the ferry, right side.
This is a paddle down the Santiam River to the Willamette River and then down to Buena Vista Ferry Park. The Santiam River part of the paddle does involve some sharp turns, watching out for wood on the river and dealing with moving splashy water. You will need to be able to direct your boat around sharp corners, deal with wood in the water and then bumpy water all at the same time. It is a lot of fun.
When we get to the Willamette confluence, there is a pretty good chance of a little rocky dragging of your boat and one last bit of bumpy water.
I will be bringing my Remix 10’ with a skirt. I will be laughing at your guys going around the corners, you will be laughing at me on the Willamette trying to keep up with you. I have taken a 17’ boat down this without any problem and I have also swam once on this run. There is one tough spot the sheriffs boat says they get called out to a couple times a year. We will scout that one, very easy portage. The sheriff told me that after I called for help one time. It will be stressed at put in, no bunching up when going around sharp corners with boiling water and wood below.
It will be a hot day, bring lots of water. We will meet in Jefferson, shuttle cars and start. Shuttle starts at 9am. There is a $3 ferry fee. Some of us will have to do multiple trips across the ferry. 11 mile paddle, 3 to 4 hours.
