My first Paddle Oregon ran this section of the river.  There is an island a little west of the I5 rest area.  It is important to go right.  One of our pods went left and dumped everybody but the pod leader.  Unfortunately I have a conflict this weekend and did not sign up.

Hi, I have decided to take my self off the wait list but cannot figure out to do so.  Please be so kind to unregister me. Thanks. Margaret

I've done part of this trip from the where the Santiam joins the Willamette several times before, but of course water flows can change things significantly.  There is an invasive Japanese Knotweed plant at the junction that I will want to stop an inspect as I gave it some unloving care on my last trip by and want to see how effective the treatment was, and then report back to the local Soil & Water Conservation district.

Gena Dwyer has lead this same trip before (for KP), so you might want to check with her and maybe even get her to sign up.

    Current information: 3 knots ??

    Hazards:

Wind strength: Level 2: 7-12 knots (14 mph) – wind noticeably effects movement of paddle

Swell/Surf size: Level 2: Waves up to 2', no breaking waves

Paddling Environment: Level 2: Mildly exposed river or coastline

    Overall rating: Level 2

Rating Comments: I think you should have Level 3 skills for this trip. I have not done this trip. The water level will likely be at higher winter levels. This means faster current. It might be a gentle yet fast trip along an easy waterway. But it could be fraught with danger in the form of woody debris, sweeping turns, tricky eddy lines and currents, or whatever. As previously stated, I have not done this trip, so we take what we get and enjoy it. There is a description of this in Canoe and Kayak Routes of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington by our own Philip Jones.
