This is the real Oregon coast. We make our base at beautiful Sunset Bay State Park, just south of Charleston, Oregon. This is Located 4-5 hours from Portland (the last part being very scenic).
Hiking paths along the headlands connect to Shore Acres and Cape Arago Parks and immerse you in pristine coastal forest with wildflowers and views of Gregory Point and the Cape Arago Lighthouse along the way.
Paddling opportunities range from the bay itself (surf permitting) to the local rivers and secluded sloughs and sanctuaries in the area. We have run trips on Bandon's Coquille River, Charleston's South Slough Estuary, Ten Mile Lake, and in the bay, where some had their first experience paddling on the ocean, feeling its swell and energy in that lovely protected setting.
