Narrative::
This is a beautiful advanced-level open coastal paddle, suitable for those with previous open coastal experience. Participants must be comfortable paddling in surf. As is the case for all ocean paddles, conditions (surf, swell, wind) rule. Actual conditions may well be too large to execute this trip as described.
If the conditions DO allow the trip to happen, we’ll launch at North Beach in Manzanita, head north, and explore tunnels and rock gardens on our way to Short Sands beach. We'll stop at Short Sands for lunch, play in the surf, and then head through an arch just west of the beach, before returning.
Plastic boats are recommended if you like to get close to the rocks.
Put in: Neah-kah-nie, North Beach (

Current:
There's usually a current running from north to south this time of year. There is also a pretty good rip that runs from North Beach to the point, making the return paddle a bit of a slog.
