Narrative::
We are moving the usual Summer Wet Wednesdays up river some this year. The parking and cost of parking in Portland has gotten a bit much so lets move to Willamette Park in West Linn. (OK, and that is closer to where I live).
Meet at 4:00 for a 4:30 safety talk.
Depending on what the wind is doing we will either paddle up to the Narrows or paddle down toward the falls (but not too close).
Either way, we will end up in a nice place to do some safety practice. This is a great chance to get out of your boat and/or help someone else get back into theirs.
This year I would like to advance interested people toward learning how to roll their boats. I think a good thing to learn, that really helps with learning a roll, is how to be calm for a bit when upside down and how to grab a friends bow and roll yourself back up. This Bow Rescue is a standard practice (we used it in our recent currents class in BC) and easy to learn and execute. Also - sort of fun.
So - come and join us for a casual fun paddle with a little bit of swimming in the river. The water is great !! (I was swimming in it today).
Immersion gear is not required, but if you want to swim I would suggest some minimum article. I will be wearing a shorty wetsuit.
A helmet is not required unless you want to try your hand at a bow rescue. There will be extra helmets available.
If you need a Wet Exit Certification - please contact me directly and plan to meet before the paddle. (you can reply to this email)
