Email address:: victorsund@comcast.net
Phone:: 707-481-4608
Activity Title:: Get offshore in 2026
Date of Activity:: 4/4/2026
Narrative:: Ready to put some ocean under your hull? Next Saturday's swell may be favorable so join us in launching through the Salmon River mouth during a flood tide, paddle north to see how some water falls are looking then back to surf at the sandbars south of the river mouth.
Other skills you can work on can be: rolling in surf, self recues, bracing, transitioning from a static warm water pool roll to a cold water roll in dynamic water. Bring helmets, non leaky drysuits, food, and desire to take some skills to the next level.
Meeting Time:: 8:45:00 AM
Launch Time:: 9:30:00 AM
Type of activity:: Paddle Trip
Put in:: 2341 N. Three Rocks Rd. Otis, Oregon 97368

Route Alternative for bad weather:: If we get "Bad weather" we surf and practice inside the beakers.

Current information:: 2 kt flood at main channel
Hazards::
Wind strength:: Level 2: 7-12 knots (14 mph) – wind noticeably effects movement of paddle
Swell/Surf size:: Level 3: Waves to 3', breaking waves to 2'
Sea state:: Level 3: Waves to paddle tops; numerous whitecaps, waves becoming longer
Landing types:: Level 3: Bad footing, rocky shores, or surf up to 1.5'
Currents:: Level 2: Mild currents (up to 2 knots): current increases / decreases group speed by half
Total distance:: Level 2: 6 to 11 miles
Open crossing:: Level 3: 1 to 2 miles
Paddling Environment::
Overall rating:: Level 3
Rating Comments:: It's hard to rate this kind of paddle. If we go to the waterfalls landings are few and far between (look at Google earth), Landing at the Waterfalls may be a bit rocky or not. I haven't been there this year. If Saturdays swell is like todays, you can paddle out without getting your face wet but today's 3-4' surf may be completely different from Saturdays.
Location:: Cascade Head at the Salmon River
