TRIPS DIRECTOR SAYS: This is a re-scheduling of Greg and Joe's Sunday paddle because of water quality in the Willamette. Because of the shortness of time, only those people previously on the Trip are being invited. No Clubwide Announcement is being sent.

Full Name:: Greg Lamberg

Narrative:: With sewage currently flowing into the Willamette and a CSO warning in effect (Combined Sewer Overflow) there is a good possiblity that the warning about paddling on the Willamette River will not be lifted in Time for Sunday. I know that the planned paddle is full, which means that people want to get on the water. I looked at other Columbia River locations and the winds look pretty high upstream of Government Island, so Hatden Island looks like a safe place for us to continue the theme of a relatively long paddle on the shortest day of the year.

SO join us for a Clockwise Circumnavigation of Hayden Island this Sunday December 21st. We'll meet at Broughton Beach. There is a $5 fee to Park at Broughton Beach and there are restrooms there. We'll stop for lunch along the way. This paddle will be at a good pace and you must be able to keep a pace of 3-4 mph for 15 miles. This is a 14.5 mile trip. You must have a properly outfitted sea Kayak at least 14 feet in length with deck lines and bulkheads (or float bags). Drysuits with proper insulation underneath required. Towropes are required. VHF Radios are requested. Helmets are optional.
