Full Name:
Paige Light-Powell
Narrative:
Come on out for a lovely later afternoon paddle around Ross Island and some rescue practice. The water is warm and now is the time to get wet!
We will meet to help each other with boats at 3:30 to be ready for a safety talk and launch around 4:00. Parking is $1.00 an hour until 5 pm, use the parking kitty app for easy payment. We will do a medium but steady pace around Ross Island, probably counter clockwise. Maybe we'll see Bald Eagle, Merganzer, Great Blue Heron, and other wildlife.
There will be a stop for a break on the island, likely on the down-river tip, and maybe you'll find an agate. Bring a snack and water, sunscreen and sun protection. Sometime during the paddle we will find a safe place to practice some rescue skills, and you'll want a spray skirt for that.
When was the last time you were the rescuer of a fellow paddler? How about a self-rescue with your paddle float? Do you know the ladder rescue? Let's get wet and have some fun!
If you need your Wet Exit Certification, contact:
safety@oopskayak.org
(that's me, Paige) before the paddle and we'll arrange to get that done too!
