Full Name:
Jon Light-Powell
Narrative:
Come on out for an Afternoon Friendship paddle around Ross Island. This is the First Wet Wednesday of the year !! We will meet to help each other with boats at 4:00 for a safety talk and Launch around 4:30. We will do a medium but steady pace around Ross Island, probably counter clockwise. We will be looking for Bald Eagle, Merganzer, Great Blue Heron, and other wildlife.
We will stop at the Lagoon or the North tip of Ross Island for a rest. We may even hunt some wild Agates.
Toward the end of the trip, as is customary, will we offer people a chance to practice their rescues. Paige and I just took a course up in Canada and we learned a couple of new rescues that people might enjoy seeing and/or trying out.
The water is warm so I am not requiring immersion gear, but if you are going to spend some time swimming and flipping you would want to wear something. Perhaps a shorty wetsuit.
If you need to do your Wet Exit Certification, contact
safety@oopskayak.org
. Paige is planning on doing some certifications either before or after the paddle.
