Full Name:
Paige Light-Powell
Narrative:
Join Paige and Peggy to explore the Willamette from Cedaroak Boat ramp to Goat Island and maybe see some nesting Great Blue Heron in their Rookery. Meet at 9:15, and be ready to launch at 10:00. We’ll swim test our immersion gear, and then paddle up the west bank, staying out of the main current, then tuck behind Goat Island to see what we can see. There’s a nice park to stop for a snack or lunch with restrooms and picnic tables. Then, if the water is high enough, we’ll circumnavigate the island and come back on the main channel. Once back to Cedaroak, there is a nice, protected bay for some rescue practice before taking out. Total distance is about 4 miles.
Current forecast is sunny and a high of 78, but the water is still quite cold at 58 degrees. Immersion wear is required, as is Wet Exit Certification. You will want a warmer layer under your drysuit, or a full wetsuit. We’ll keep cool during our paddle with the chilly river water. Bring a sun hat, glasses, sunscreen, water, and lunch or a snack.
