Full Name: Greg Lamberg Narrative: Join Greg Lamberg and Will Greenough for Greg's first ATO mentored paddle on April 5th. Eat your Wheaties and bring some high energy snacks for this planned roughly 19 mile paddle. We will leave from and return to Dalton Point. At the start of the trip we will paddle across the mighty Columbia to Prindle (just east of Cape Horn - about a .9 mile crossing) and head east towards the Bonnevile Dam on the northern/Washington side of the Columbia. We'll paddle to Beacon Rock and then around Pierce Island back to the main channel of the Columbia. There may be a short portage involved in getting past the end of Pierce Island and back to the main channel. From there we'll cross back over to the Oregon side (about a .25 mile crossing) and paddle back to Dalton point. Planning one break along each leg and a lunch stop right near Beacon Rock. Paddlers should be comfortable (a little nervous is fine) with this distance. be able to keep a 3.5 mph pace for a little better than 5 hours, have a properly fitted sea kayak of at least 14 foot in length with bulkheads or float bags, be proficient with self rescues (both as rescuer and rescuee). Bonus points for proficiency with self rescues. Tow ropes and radios required. Helmets optional. If you have not launched out of Dalton point, it is a rocky boat ramp. Parking is free and there are clean pit tiolets there. If traveling from the west, take the Multinomah Falls exit and essentially make a U turn on 84 through the Parking lot to head back west on 84 to the Dalton Point exit (exit 29).
