Narrative: This stretch of the Willamette has no houses or bridges along the route. It feels very pristine for being so relatively close to a population center. It is 15 miles but the current will make it feel less but being able to pay attention to obstacle and move sooner then later is important. We will encounter some whirlpools (nothing dangerous) and back eddies.
We will meet at the east side of the Wheatland ferry on the right side of the road if you are facing the river by the cable fence. We will off load our gear and run the shuttle to San Salvador leaving non drivers to watch the gear. Car pooling is encouraged (you can click on participants for the trip to see who is going ) as San Salvador has limited parking.
We will then launch ferrying across the river to the entrance to the backside of
Wheatland Bar for a 2 mile jaunt down the back channel then reentering the main channel. We will then paddle around the east side of Grand Island and then go around Jackson Bend then behind the backside channels of Five and Coffee Island. We will then paddle around few more miles before entering the back channel of Candiani Bar and then on to San Salvador.
We will find a lunch stop along the way. I am guessing the current will move us along at 5-6 MPH . Sign up on the waitlist for approval as it is a level 3. Travel time from Portland is about an hour. Check goggle maps.
