Full Name:
Brenda C Brewer
Narrative:
Would you enjoy a mellow New Year’s Day paddle? Then come join Bob Freshman and Brenda Brewer on the second annual Estacada Lake New Year’s paddle! Winter is usually quiet and peaceful on the lake, and we frequently see many birds and lots of run-off waterfalls.
We will launch above the dam in the lake and paddle upstream, passing many cool waterfalls, with time for pictures. If the current is too “sporty” up by the dam or if there’s not a good landing zone at the gravel bar we will head on back; otherwise we will take a snack and bio break before heading back.
Overall this is a mellow level 2 paddle. Hazards include cold (mid 40’s) so please wear your dry suit with warm clothes underneath, gloves and pogies if you use them, and consider bringing a hot drink or soup. The forecast calls for light rain in the morning and partly cloudy by afternoon.
There is a vault toilet in the parking lot, and a kayak launch as well as the shore to launch from. It’s usually $5 entrance fee, but I believe that is waived on New Years Day. From the park entrance to the lake is about a 10-15 minute drive, so please allow yourself enough time to arrive stress free and on time. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email Brenda at
