Narrative:
Let’s meet this Saturday & take a leisurely trip up the Willamette Narrows. Meet at Willamette Park, West Linn, at the non-motorized boat launch. Meeting time 8:30 AM. Safety Brief at 9:00 AM. On the Water at 9:15 AM. The intension of this trip is to take our time, enjoy the fall colors, explore the ins & outs of the Willamette Narrows, & taking a nice lunch break on the river. We will first paddle upstream on the west side of the river (West Linn side). Then into the narrows on the west side. Once we exit this section of the narrows, we cross the main river channel over to the east side of the river (Oregon City side). Travel further upstream until we locate a suitable entrance to the east side narrows. We will explore this area then take our lunch break here. After lunch we will paddle the main channel downstream, then back up into the east side narrows. The north & south ends of the east narrows do not connect unless the water is extremely high. Once we have had our fill of exploring, we will head back to our put in.
Water temperature at USGS Newberg is 52 Deg F. Drysuit will be required & appropriate layering under your drysuit. Highly recommended that you bring neoprene gloves and hood. Air temperature is forecast for 45 to 55 deg F. At this point, chance of rain is 65%, but hey this is Oregon, it may rain or it may be gorgeous. Gage height is 59.7, USGS Newberg, with a discharge rate of 23,000 cf/sec. Gage height is 57.4, USGS Willamette River Above Falls, at Oregon City. Little rain is forecast this week, so the water levels should come down some.
Bring a lunch, warm lunch or drink if possible. Warm layers under your drysuit & extra cloths.
