Full Name: Ken Sund
Narrative: Join Fish and Game scientist and Siletz river resident Mike Szumski and Ken Sund on a tire removal downstream paddle on the Siletz river. Mike and I will be individual canoes but you can bring your canoe or plastic kayak and join us. This will be an L-2 mostly shallow water trip and you don't need sprayskirts. We could use help finding the tires and digging them out of the gravels. We are launching from Hee Hee Illahee Park in the town of Siletz and taking out at Ojalla Boat Slide park. I have sent a chart of the river to the trips director to include in this posting. The distance is about 10 miles.
September 21 is International Coastal Cleanup Day and my local surfrider foundation has a deal to get rid of tires at $1.00 each.
A shuttle will be required and I will coordinate that. Free parking and toilets at the take out. Most of the boat ramps on the Siletz have free parking and toilets. There are camp grounds near the launch and take out.
This paddle is best for people who have paddled small rivers. It is not instruction in river paddling.
