Narrative: Please join me for a paddle across the Columbia River to Oregon's Welch Island. It lies just north of Tenasillahe Island and due east of Quinns Island. Together, these islands and others make up an archipelago of small marshy islands along Oregon's northern shoreline. Once we're across the Columbia, an open distance of just under a mile, we'll make our way a short distance downriver around the top of Welch into Clifton Channel which separates Welch from Quinns Island. From there we can explore some of Welch Island's interior waterways before making our way farther down the channel to Red Slough. This slough, is about 1.5 miles long and will take us between Welch and Tenasillahe Islands before re-entering the Columbia. Once we're back on the Columbia, we'll make our crossing by paddling downriver to our campground at Vista Park. Total distance will be about 8 miles.
