Full Name:
Thomas Waldron
Narrative:
Since the waitlist for this trip by Bob Freshman add Steve Blackwood was full, with a long wait list, Teresa and I decided to offer a second trip. Paddlers already on the waitlist for Bob’s and Steve’s trip will be sent a password to sign up for the second trip.
Please join Teresa and me for a paddle from Rooster Rock State park across the Columbia to the always scenic Cape Horn and back going behind Sand Island on the return trip if water level permits. Cape Horn is a massive basalt cliff outcrop located on the Washington side of the Columbia River rising up to 2500 feet with seasonal waterfalls into the Columbia River.
It’s hard to forecast weather conditions two weeks out but the water temperature should still be in the 65-70 degree range. If the conditions do not look right for the crossing, we have an option to paddle around Sand Island instead of crossing the Columbia. We will make the final route decision before the trip based on be windy at times, so while it’s not required, if you own a towline and know how to safely use one, please bring it.
Oregon State Parks have a $5 parking fee unless you have the yearly state park pass.
The launch is located at the west end of the park.
