Narrative:
Skamokawa Creek Natural Resources conservation area is a beautiful inland level one paddle. It contains mature conifer forest habitat including platform trees supporting marbled murrelet nesting sites. The murrelet is a seabird that nests inland on the broad branches of old-growth trees.
We'll launch from the campsite, then paddle up the creek. How far we get will depend on water levels and how engrossed we are with watching wildlife - probably four miles round-trip. We will start paddling at maximum ebb so we don't get caught downriver at low tide.
Bring a lunch, we'll find a gravel bar. And bring your camera - you never know what will charge out of the bushes.
