Full Name: Steve Blackwood
Narrative: We will launch from the Vista Park Boat ramp. Then we will travel up the Steam Boat Slough until we reach the main channel of the Columbia River. This is where we will cross the active shipping channel on the Columbia. This is about a 3/4-mile crossing and will require paddlers to maintain a 3-mph paddling speed. We will travel up the Red Slough and then turn
north. After we reach the north end of the Island we will lunch on the east side before crossing the Columbia and the active shipping channel to return to our put in.

There is not a lot of take outs on this Island. Crossings are hazardous. This is only about 7.5 nautical miles, but it does have some challenges. Paddlers should have good paddling skills.
