Full Name: Thomas Waldron
Narrative: Join Teresa and Tom for a paddle around Tenasillahe Island on the Columbia.

Tenasillahe Island is an island in the Columbia River Estuary portion of the Columbia River in Clatsop County, Oregon. It is separated from the mainland and the unincorporated community of Clifton, Oregon by the Clifton Channel, and from nearby Welch Island by the Red Slough. The island was visited by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and Tenasillahe and Welch were known as the "Marshy Islands". The entire island is part of the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White-tailed Deer.

Our journey will start from Vista Park in Skamokawa. We’ll paddle our way SE behind Price Island, then cross the main channel to Red Slough, between Welch and Tenasillahe Island. Traveling CCW, we’ll circumnavigate Tenasillahe Island, cross the main channel and follow the west side of Price Island back to Vista Park.

The trip is approximately 11 nm. We’ll stop for lunch on the southern tip of Tenasillahe Island.

This paddle includes an open water crossing of just under 1 nm with container ship traffic. The area is also susceptible to windy conditions, especially in the afternoon. Paddlers who sign up for this trip will be expected to maintain a 3 knot pace throughout the day. Please assess your skill level and stamina if you are considering signing up for this trip.

Bring a tow rope if you have one. Boats at least 14’ long with a skeg or rudder.
