Full Name: Chris Mayou
Narrative: It’s been too long since I’ve paddled the winding paths through the “lily pads” (wocus) and small canals of Silver Lake, near Castle Rock, WA. About the same size as Vancouver Lake, it boasts a view of Mt. St. Helens. Please be water-ready by 10:30 a.m. We’ll be on the water about three hours, traveling approximately six-seven miles. Canoes with floatation are welcome. No inflatable boats or boats shorter than 10 ft., please.

Bring snacks, but plan on a late lunch after we take-out. There are extremely limited take-out locations and I can't guarantee anything for a lunch break.

We’ll launch from Streeter’s Resort, 120 Lake Rd., Silver Lake, WA 98645. There is a $10 parking fee, payable at the Streeter’s Resort store, which is good all day.

It looks like a cooling trend will affect this trip. Air temperatures while we’re on the water will probably be around 65-70 degrees. In my years of trying, I’ve never found an online resource that records the water temperature of this particular Silver Lake, in Cowlitz County. I’ll just say that it’s a shallow lake (mostly 10 ft. deep and less, with an average depth of 6 ft.) at a low elevation (489 ft.). I’m going to guess that the water temperature is around 65-70. Immersion wear will not be required, but this might be a good time to wear that lightweight neoprene top or shorts you’ve got tucked back in your closet.
