Full Name:
Chris Mayou
Narrative:
Join Monte Johnston and me as we paddle round-trip from West Linn’s Willamette Park, heading upstream to “the Narrows” and then on to the far (south) end of Willow Island. Total of 8 miles. The current will be mild in the back channels and the main channel, with a gage height of 56 ft. This is one of the prettiest sections of the Willamette in the metro area. This will be a relaxed pace paddle so that we can enjoy the scenery.
We’ll poke around the various passages as the water height allows and get out of our boats for a snack break at Willow Island before heading back to Willamette Park.
We'll plan to launch from Bernert Boat Launch (yes, where the power boats launch). Bring wheels if you have them. Stage your boat on the grass at the top of the boat launch area and we’ll coordinate a launch from there. Please do not put your boats on the concrete boat launch until we’re all ready. We may insist that participants do a DOCK launch. Free parking: 1) across the street in the little day-use area 2) to the west in the grassy parking lot 3) you may be one of the lucky few to snag a single-car spot in the main parking lot. Do NOT park in the trailer spaces unless you have a trailer. Bathrooms are available.
Please be water-ready at 9:30 a.m. with your boat on the grass. Water temperature is about 70F. Air temperature will be in the 80s. No immersion wear is required. Paddlers should expect to stay with the pod. Canoes with flotation and kayaks 12’ and longer are welcome. No inflatables, please.
