Leader: Joseph P. SKUDLAREK Narrative: Come one, come all (OK, no more than 10 total) to the leisurely paddle and inaugural outing for the latest two boats in the OOPSters's fleet -- 2 magnificent Petrel Plays! We had demo day back last October with Robert Nissenbaum, and both Sue Brown and I purchased new bespoke boats -- we should get them by the end of this month. To celebrate, and to show them off, and Sue wants to let folks try hers, we're having a leisurely Level 1 paddle on Mon 08-Jul-2024. We will launch at 9:58 AM at Cedaroak Boat Ramp in West Linn, go upriver toward Goat Island on the eastern shore, check out the mouth of the Clackamas and if open, go in and poke a round for a little bit, slide back out, and check the top (southern end) of Goat Island -- if open, we'll slide on through. And then we'll return to our launch site. Total distance, about 4 miles. Total time, about 2 hours (no lunch, but bio breaks and boat swaps on demand), so we should be off the water before noon. To allow a small flotilla of 10 folks, I've enlisted the ever generous co-TO MNR -- thanks, Mark! I also expect Sue and I will do a little towing practice, and while not part of the paddle, I expect to use the lagoon to play with and find the edge of my new boat, and to become a Wet Exit Certifier. There is limited parking there this time of year (don't use the trailer spaces), but again, a Monday in early summer should be a snap, and they have good restrooms. We follow the OOPS pod protocol, so please plan to stay with the group. Only for hard-shell Kayaks 12 feet or longer. This is an easy Level 1 trip -- wet exit certification (WEC) is not required if you don't wear a spray skirt; but if you do wear a spray skirt, you must be WEC. Please arrive in time to be ready to roll at 9:42 AM, when we have the safety talk; we launch at 9:58 AM.
