Narrative: Take advantage of the spring tide to ride the current both directions through the Tacoma Narrows. We'll enjoy a late lunch at the Tides Tavern in Gig Harbor while waiting for the tide to turn. Along the way we will paddle under the Tacoma Narrows bridge, along the shore of Salmon Beach - a unique walk in community, and by Point Defiance. The weather looks good for this L3 trip with sunshine and 75 degrees in the current forecast. We may experience some headwind on the return paddle. You will need to be relatively comfortable with eddylines and boils as the currents through the Narrows will approach 4 kt in both directions. The total distance is expected to be about 15 miles (13 nm). We should be back at the launch at about 5pm.
If you have wheels, please bring them as you may have to park some distance from the beach.
