Leader: Tom Waldron

Narrative: Launching from Arbutus road on the north end of Salt Spring Island we’ll paddle across Houstoun Passage to Jackscrew Island. From there we’ll figure eight our way around the Secretary, Mowgli and Norway Islands with a stop at Chivers Point Campground on Wallace Island before returning to Jackscrew Island and finally to our takeout at Southey Point.

FYI, Secretary, Mowgli and Norway Islands are all private so there may not be an opportunity to stop for lunch or a break until be arrive at Chivers Point Campground on Wallace Island. It’s a little over 5 nm from Jackscrew Island to Wallace Island on our planned route. We may have to get inventive for snack and bio breaks, so come prepared. Total distance is approximately 9.5 nm.

No ferry routes to concern ourselves with on this trip and open crossings are minimal. Plan to paddle at a 3 knot pace.

Southey Point is approximately a 45 minute drive from Ruckle and parking is limited so we’ll be starting early and carpooling. We'll travel as a group to the put-in, leaving Ruckle at 7:30 am sharp.
