Narrative: This is a classic and challenging trip in the southern San Juan Islands. Launching from Washington Park in Anacortes, we'll cross Rosario Strait letting a 4kt ebb sweep us to the southern end of Lopez Island. We'll then explore the incredibly beautiful rocky southern shore of Lopez Island, stopping at Iceberg Point for lunch. After lunch, we'll paddle to Davis Point at the entrance to Cattle Pass and play in the standing waves that often form there. From there we will paddle through very turbulent water flooding through Cattle Pass in excess of 5kt, playing in the boils and whirlpools as the current sweeps us north toward Friday Harbor. We will expect to arrive at Friday Harbor around 4:30pm where we will have dinner while awaiting the 6:30pm ferry back to Anacortes. You will need to bring wheels for the ferry ride.
Helmets, tow belts and VHF radios are required for this paddle. You must be comfortable in rough water and in good phyiscal shape as this is a long trip (22nm), and we will be paddling at a 3kt pace and playing in the standing waves at Davis Point.
