This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED). To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Full Name:Chris Mayou Activity Title: Willamette Narrows and Willow Island RT , L1, 9-25-22 Date of Activity: 9/25/2022 Narrative: Join Monte Johnston and I as we paddle round-trip from West Linn’s Willamette Park, heading upstream to “the Narrows” and then on to the far (south) end of Willow Island. Total of 8 miles. The current will be mild in the back channels and the main channel, with a gage height of 56 ft. This is one of the prettiest sections of the Willamette in the metro area. This will be a relaxed pace paddle so that we can enjoy the scenery. We’ll poke around the various passages as the water height allows and get out of our boats for a snack break at Willow Island before heading back to Willamette Park. No immersion wear is required. Paddlers should expect to stay with the pod. We'll plan to launch from Bernert Boat Launch. Bring wheels if you have them. Please be water-ready at 9:00 a.m. Water temperature is about 64F. Air temperature will be in the 70s and possibly into the 80s while we are on the water. No immersion wear is required. Paddlers should expect to stay with the pod. Bathrooms are available; free parking. Canoes with flotation and kayaks 12’ and longer are welcome. No inflatables, please.
