Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Activity Title: Willipa Bay Camping alternative to Waldo Lake L2, 8-14-22
Date of Activity: 8/14/2022
Narrative: This is offered as a camping alternative for the Waldo Lake participants. Its listed as a waitlisted trip to give Waldo attendees first priority. After one day posted, it will fill from the waitlist with general OOPS members.
The plan is to launch at the Wildlife refuge at noon. We will need to meet at 10;30AM. A Discover Pass is needed to park at the refuge, and it cannot be purchased on site. (purchase it online ahead of time). Paddling against the incoming current to Sand Spit Campground is 3-1/2 miles on the water, we will have plenty of time to get there. Then camp for two nights. Leaving on Tuesday we can launch at 3:30 in the afternoon to paddle back to the refuge.
Activities for Monday could include a paddle around Diamond Head and back, a hike to Paradise Point across the island, or a hike to the old growth cedar grove.
Camping on the island is first come first serve; backup sites to Sandspit could be Smokey Hollow, one mile back, or Pinnacle point, two miles back. There is no fresh water on the island, you will need to carry your own water and camping gear. There are bears on the island, you will need a bear hang.
Current early forecasts are for highs in the upper 60's, Lows in the mid 50's. Partly cloudy. Wind W 10 on Sunday. S 15 on Monday. Tuesday W 10.
