Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Full Name: Bob Freshman
Activity Title: Rooster Rock to Cape Horn RT, L2, 6-5-22
Date of Activity: 6/5/2022
Narrative: Please join Steve Blackwood and Bob Freshman for a trip from Rooster Rock State park across the Columbia to the always scenic Cape Horn and back going behind Sand Island on the return trip. Cape Horn is a massive basalt cliff outcrop located on the Washington side of the Columbia River rising up to 2500 feet with seasonal waterfalls into the Columbia River.
It’s hard to get an accurate forecast a week prior to the trip and we will monitor as we get closer to the trip. The main concern is the wind, if the wind is too strong that day we can pick an alternate location with better conditions or have an option to paddle around Sand Island instead of crossing the Columbia. We will make the final route decision before the trip based on conditions. There are some moderate currents and eddies around Cape Horn. This area can get unexpectedly windy at times, so while it’s not required, if you own a towline and know how to safely use one, please bring it.
Oregon State Parks have a $5 parking fee unless you have the yearly state park pass.

After you go past the pay station take a left. We will be meeting in the parking lot past the first restroom.
