Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle

Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Full Name: Jasper Greve
Activity Title: Waveplay at Cascade Head, L3
Date of Activity: 5/22/2022
Narrative: It looks like a nice small day to go play in the waves! Come play with Steve and me at Cascade Head and practice surf launching, landing, ride some waves, and maybe, just maybe, go explore around the head.

This is a level 3 paddle but we don't expect you to be an experienced Ocean Kayaker, conditions should be good to learn and practice. If we haven't paddled before, we might contact you with some questions as we try to balance the group.

We will launch from the Knight Park boat ramp, and paddle out to the mouth of the river on the last of the outgoing tide while doing warm-up exercises and a few rescue practices. We will land on the beach and spend some time on instruction/briefing before playing in the waves. When people start getting tired we will ride the incoming tide back to the boat ramp.

A note on immersion wear: A full, proper fitting, wetsuit or drysuit with proper undergarments can be appropriate. Do plan on spending some time in the water and dress accordingly. Contact me with any questions you may have.
