This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED). To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Full Name:Chris Mayou Activity Title: Milwaukie Bay Park to Hog Island L2, 9-21-21 Date of Activity: 9/21/2021 Narrative: This is an afternoon trip from Milwaukie Bay Park to George Rogers and Hog Island (9 miles RT). We’ll meet at Milwaukie Bay Park (a.k.a. Milwaukie Riverfront Park) at 12:30 p.m. and plan to launch around 1:30 p.m. We’ll paddle past scenic Elk Rock. Possible break and snack/late lunch spots are Foothills Park and George Rogers Park. We’ll likely return by 5:30 p.m. Parking is free, but it can be limited. If you don’t find a NON-trailer spot at the boat ramp area, the alternative is to drop off your boat and park across the street in the business area. Single vehicles are NOT allowed in the trailer parking spots. Please arrive early enough to give yourself time to park across the street if that becomes necessary. If parking seems impossible for the group, we’ll launch from Sellwood and paddle up to Elk Rock. Please keep your boat on your car when you arrive until we can make that determination. Wheels can be helpful at both potential launch spots. You can launch from the dock, ramp, or rocky beach. Bathrooms are available. Immersion wear is not required, but you might feel like it’s time to break out the neoprene. This will be a relaxed pace trip; SUPs that can maintain a kayak-pace and canoes with flotation are welcome. No inflatables, please.
