This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification. To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Please read and be ready to follow club Covid guidelines.
Narrative: This is a kayak camping trip to Wallace Island from Clatskanie's Beaver Boat Ramp. All food and water, camping, cooking equipment, etc. needs to be carried in your kayak. Leave no trace camping procedure is to be used, including "blue bags." For the parking at Beaver ramp, bring $10 cash for the envelope system there (2 days at $5 / day). We'll meet at 11:00 am to allow more time to find and pack all your gear. We'll then take sufficient time to pack gear into the kayaks. The paddle is about 7 miles one way to the campsite which has level ground and a nice overlook of the Columbia River. Covid procedures will be used so that means no pot luck and masks whenever full social distancing cannot be maintained. The return paddle on Friday morning will be when the group is ready to go. Prior kayak camping experience is not required.
