Registration

  • Active club members, to include kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance pending approval of trip organizer.

Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification.  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Narrative:

Our route will depart from Steamboat Landing Park and will circumnavigate Reed Island State Park, a 427-acre marine park. As we approach, if it is clear we'll see Mt. Hood. The island faces the bird-rich Steigerwald National Wildlife Refuge, from the north, separated by a shallow, narrow channel. Across the main channel of the Columbia we'll view Oregon's rising basalt cliffs and Vista House. You can even see Sand Island and the tip of Rooster Rock. We'll be stopping for a socially distant lunch on the island. The total trip mileage will be around 8.5 miles.

Access the gravel parking area by exiting Rt 14 on the first right on the turn around. There is no parking fee. We'll meet at 9AM to help each other carry our boats down the ramp to the dock, or you can use your wheels. This is a dock launch and there will be assistance to get in and out of your boat. There is a bathroom but it was closed last I checked.

We will be strictly following OOPS Covid -19 guidelines found at https://www.oopskayak.org/Documents. Please remember: Masks, hand sanitizer, toiletries, etc. Tip: store mask in zip lock in PFD.
