Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification.  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative: Join Steve Blackwood and me for a Saturday paddle down the Clatskanie River to Wallace Island in the Columbia River. We'll launch from Beaver Boat Ramp and Park in Clatskanie which is about 1:15 minutes from Portland. We'll paddle about 2.5 miles to the mouth of the Clatskanie River where it joins the Columbia River. From there, we will paddle around the east end of Wallace Island moving into the channel between Cooper and Wallace Islands taking out on Wallace's northern shore where we'll break for lunch before heading back to our launch site. Most of Wallace Island is part of the Julia Butler Hanson Wildlife Refuge for Columbia White Tail Deer. While we may not see any deer, we will enjoy the scenery of the area including the other Caper Horn located along the Washington shore line just across the river from Wallace and Cooper Islands. Total distance for the day will be about 10 miles. Parking is free at the boat ramp and their are real restrooms available.
