This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification. To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Narrative: You may have heard someone say Practice where you Paddle, so lets do a 2-4hr rescue practice in the Willamette River in the middle of February. Refine your rescues and re-entries, as a team, assisted and solo--the plan is to have fun playing around in & out of boats. You can choose what you want to work on. We will spend our time in the area around the Cedaroak Boat Ramp in West Linn (no parking fee), providing opportunities in both calmer water and in the current. This is a great place to practice your rescues in the conditions where you might need them. Note that this is a practice session rather than a class.
We will start off with a 20 minute warm up on the water before we start the actual practice. The water will be on the cooler side of 45 degrees so plan for wearing extra warm layers under your dry-suit, helmet and gloves. What to bring: tow-rope, extra clothing, warm drink, food for energy. We will do a debrief at the local pub afterwards.
