Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification. To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative: Join Monte Johnston, Chris Mayou and me to paddle from Scappoose Bay to Sand Island, across from St Helen’s.

It’s Halloween time to enjoy costumes and pumpkins. We will paddle next to St Helen’s waterfront to view the annual “Halloweentown” (a month-long Halloween themed festival celebration)!

Meet at Scappoose Bay Paddle Center at 10:15 am and be ready for the OOPS pre-paddle talk at 11:00 am. We will put in at the dock. Park on the right side near the grass to unload kayak and carry down to dock. Then purchase a parking permit $3.00 and park in the upper lot.

We will paddle down Scappoose Creek to the Multnomah Channel until we merge with the Columbia River against the mild flood tide to the west end of Sand Island. We will lunch on Sand Island for about 45 minutes.

Our paddle will take us along the St Helens waterfront, including the marina to hopefully see some of the Halloweentown decorations!

Our return will be against a slowish current with a mild tide helping us back.

Total paddle will be about 9 miles depending on how many detours we take. Expect to paddle close within easy earshot of an organizer in the pod!

After the paddle there's an opportunity to stop at Sauvie’s Island to pick up pumpkins and gourds!!
