Narrative: Forget your work day and get refreshed with an evening paddle!! When I was working I found the best way to "de-stress" was to get in my kayak after work and paddle it away. We'll start with an optional "bring your own food and non-alcohol beverage" picnic in the park on the benches near the water/put-in. I'll be there by 5:00 to eat my dinner and hope you can join me. We will paddle down stream (slack tide) on the lagoon (north) side of Ross Island. If the water level is low enough we will take a brief rest break before returning. We will paddle back against a mild tide. It’s always fun to wave hello to those hanging outside on their houseboats!! Most are quite friendly if we keep a reasonable distance. With luck we will witness evening water fowl and the start to a beautiful sunset. We should return to Sellwood Park by 8:15 pm. Bring a white light for your boat in the unlikely chance something occurs to keep us on the water after 8:25 pm, when sunset begins. Less than 5 miles round trip. Wind at this evening hour should be mild, under 8 mph, but there's always potential for higher winds. Winds over 8 mph could increase this trip to a Level 2 and we will reassess paddle plans. If winds are forecasted the day before (8/12/19) above 12 mph I will contact participants to consider options. Please have your boat at shore and be ready for the pre-paddle talk by 6:00 pm. Bring a spray skirt. Wearing it might be optional depending on boat traffic and conditions. Wet exit certified required. Remember to bring a waterproof white light for your kayak!!
