Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer.

Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification.  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative:
This is for people already registered for the Lake Billy Chinook Weekend. We will put in at the Upper Deschutes Boat Launch and paddle upstream to where the Deschutes enters the lake. On the way, we will practice hugging a sheer rock wall (paddling on one side), low-brace turns, and hanging draws, all while marveling at the stunning canyon. The low-brace turns and hanging draws will prepare us for (optional) playing in the eddies and current where the river enters the lake. For that last optional activity, a helmet will be needed. There is a nice shaded area here for resting and snacking. When ready, we will return to the launch site.
