Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification.  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative:
Join Brad Sheehan and me for a wildlife paddle on Sturgeon Lake, located on Sauvie Island. Originally known as Wapato Island, it is one of the largest river islands in the US, and Sturgeon Lake is one of the largest lakes on a river island in the US. The island is so big, it falls into 2 different counties in Oregon and it is home to an enormous number of bird species. We'll meet at 7:30am at the Cracker Barrel Store just after you get off the bridge to the island. The early start gives us plenty of high water to explore the area. Plan on about 5 hours of paddle time. From the store, we'll caravan to Oak Island Boat Ramp, about a 25 minute drive (I said it was a big island). The launch site can handle a max of 10 cars. A $10 parking pass is required and can be purchased from the store or online at ODFW. The annual pass is $30 for those who plan multiple visits during the year. More paddlers can be accommodated if carpools are set up.
