This trip i.e. limited to members who are WEC. Reminder: Registration is conditional on final approval by the TO, who may communicate with you to assess whether your skills & equipment are appropriate for the trip.
Narrative: Get up close and personal with the Astoria-Megler Bridge. We'll launch out of Chinook WA marina and paddle up river with the tide, passing the batteries at Fort Columbia State Park. Here we'll stop for a quick bio break and possibley a QUICK peek at batteries before we catch the flood current and head towards the bridge.
Once at the bridge we'll take a few minutes to play in the current around the pillars, getting a chance to get a good look at the 4 mile long bridge that finished construction in 1965 and was dedicated by Mark Hatfield on August 27, 1966.
Once done playing at the bridge, we'll continue up river with the current passing the remains of the USS Plainview which was the largest Hydrofoil of it's day being decommissioned in 1978 and sold for scrap. We'll end our paddle at Knappton which was the site of an old Quarantine Center from 1899 to 1938.
