Astoria Waterfront from Young's Bay (Level 2)

  • August 09, 2018
  • 10:15 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Astoria Recreation Center, Astoria, OR
  • 6

This trip is limped to members who are WEC.  Reminder: Registration is conditional upon final approval by TO, who may communicate with you to assess whether your skills & equipment are appropriate for the trip.

Narrative: Come explore the historic Astoria waterfront by kayak. We will plan to launch from the Astoria Recreation Center in Youngs Bay, paddle north about 2-1/2 miles to the Astoria Docks and then paddle along the historic waterfront to the Maritime Museum where we will get out to stretch our legs, eat lunch and turn around. The total distance is about 8-1/2 miles.

Bring a lunch or snack. Bring money for coffee or ice cream, just in case.

This trip may be shortened if the winds kick up. We will be paddling against a current about half the time, and possibly a strong wind. You should be a fairly strong paddler, able to paddle against a 2 knot current and wind.

I’ve been told there is no parking fee at the Astoria Recreation Center where we launch. I don’t know if there are bathroom facilities.
