Comments and Discussion
This trip is limited to members who are WEC. Please note: it is presently undetermined whether Registration will occur at the Event site at a meeting the evening before the trip, or on line in advance of the Event.
If on site, the TO will communicate with you at the meeting to assess whether your skills & equipment are appropriate for this trip. If Registration opens on line, you'll be notified sufficiently in advance of the Event. However, for this trip as with any Level 3 (or 4) trip, electronic registration is always conditional i.e., "waitlist only" for everyone - to provide the TO adequate opportunity to conduct a paddler assessment.
Narrative: This is approximately a 7 mile circumnavigation of Sand Island which lies in Baker Bay, adjacent to the mouth of the Columbia. We are likely to encounter significant wind and waves. Flood current returning will be 4.5 knot and there are wing dams and pilings to avoid.
Participants should feel comfortable controlling their kayaks in significant current, winds and waves. We will plan to have lunch along the island. Dry suits and helmets will be required. (Wear a tow belt if you know how to use one.)
Please note: There is a parking fee at this Washington State Park - unless you have a current Discover Pass.
