Narrative:
Join me for a relaxed paddle up the Willamette River. We will launch from Cedar Oak Boat Ramp in West Linn below the falls. From the boat ramp we will head south up the river towards the falls, a distance of about 3.5 miles. We will be paddling against a very mild current with an outgoing tide. We'll stay close to the west shoreline out of the way of fishing boats. As we head south, we'll pass by Goat Island on our right, then go under the Abernathy bridge followed by the Oregon City Arch Bridge, cruise by the Willamette Locks (now closed) before heading a little further to the falls. Once there we can choose to ride the currrent or just observe the beauty of the falls from a safe distance. On our way back we may choose to explore the lower Clackamas River where it empties into the east side of the Willamette River above Oregon City. Goat Island offers a pleasant takeout for snacks/lunch. After the paddle we can stop for some food and beverage before heading on to the OOPS general meeting in Multonomah Village.
