Narrative: Let's take a leisure paddle down the Willamette river on Wednesday, 5/23/18. We'll launch from Cedar Oak Boat Ramp in West Linn, OR and head down river to Elk Island in Milwaukie. Once there, we will take out for lunch and breaks (no bathroom facilities, but lots of trees and shrubs). It's about 4 miles to Elk Island, so the round trip will be approximately 8 miles. We can stop along the way going and coming at George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego where there is a fine beach and real restrooms. Weather is predicted to be about 79° according to NOAA. This part of the river is tidal influenced. Low tide in Oregon City (just down river from our launch site) will be at 10:51 am. High tide will be at 2:06 pm. This means we'll have a gentle assist coming back upriver from Elk Island. The river is quite full now due to increased snow melt, but the currents are fairly gentle (about 1 mph). Even with increased snow melt, the temperature of the water is about 60°. This is a pretty section of the river, with some islands and natural areas to enjoy along the way.
