Narrative: Week-end paddlers—this one is for you! We'll launch from Speelyai Day Use Area boat launch at 11:00 a.m. and head upstream. Our destination is picturesque Canyon Creek. We’ll also poke up by the hatchery and see if any kokanee are milling about. There are plenty of spots for lunch and breaks. This is a good time to paddle the lake, before the nearby campground opens and there are more power boats on the water. We can expect to see fishing boats out, but they generally are moving slowing, if at all, while fishing. At least half of our trip is in a no-wake zone. There may be a parking fee in March; be prepared for that. Unless you’ve brought a trailer, do not park in the boat parking spaces (you might receive a ticket); use the single-car spaces. There are vault toilets. This paddle may be out of cell phone range. Your phone’s map app may lose connection. There is decent signage, but keep an eye on your odometer. Bring along a snack or lunch. 9-10 miles round-trip. Arrive in time to be ready to launch at 11:00 a.m. No inflatable boats, please. We will adhere to safe and effective pod principles. Here is a fun video about the hatchery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65Qng8N2oxA&feature=youtu.be
