Narrative: We will launch from the dock behind Alder Creek shop at 200 NE Tomahawk Island Drive, Portland, Oregon. From there, carefully move through the moored boats to the North Portland channel, and head upriver toward the upstream end of Tomahawk Island. Then around the upstream end of the island, paying attention to stay clear of the wing dam, and start downstream on the main Columbia River toward the I-5 bridge. Continue down river to the end of Hayden Island, and turn left back into the North Portland channel. Then back up the channel to the Alder Creek boat dock. We will take shore breaks as needed. Likely stop for lunch on the downstream end of Hayden Island. This is about 10 nautical miles round trip. There are restrooms at Alder Creek, and rustic opportunities along the route as best suits. If anyone is inclined we can work on strokes or rescues. This would be a great opportunity for some forward stroke practice.
