Narrative:  I’m in the mood for some Columbia River views. Please join me on a round-trip paddle from Rooster Rock State Park upriver and around Sand Island. Total distance will be about nine miles. We’ll head upriver on the incoming tide along the back side (south side) of Sand Island. We’ll break for lunch on Sand Island, where energetic paddlers might climb to the top of the dunes. For our return leg of the journey, we’ll keep Sand Island close and to our left as we head back in the main channel of the Columbia. We’re going to have to work a bit to go upstream, but we’ll be rewarded with the current and wind in our favor heading back. If the weather forecast (currently showing no rain) changes to rain for Wednesday, the trip may be rescheduled. Please arrive by 10:30 a.m. We’ll get ready to launch at  11:00 a.m. My goal is to be off the water by 3:30 p.m at the latest, but no guarantees! Still, you’ll have plenty of time to get to the OOPS meeting that night. Park at the far west end of the parking lot by the boat ramp. Restrooms available. State park permit or fee required. This level two trip is suitable for boats 12 ft. and longer; no inflatables, please. Intermediate-advanced SUP paddlers who can keep up with kayaks welcome. Rooster Rock State Park, Corbett, OR 97019 [exit 25 off of I-84].
