I’m borrowing Monte’s island-hopping theme and picking up the trip he couldn’t do earlier due to high wind and heavy rain--Washougal Waterfront Park to Reed Island (circumnavigation).
We’ll paddle along the north shore of the Columbia River and past Cottonwood Beach as we make our way up the channel between Reed Island State Park and Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. This is a 10-mile trip, and we will do some paddling in the main channel of the Columbia. We’ll launch from the new Washougal Waterfront Park; be water-ready by 10:00 a.m. We should be off the water around 3 p.m. By unloading at the east end of the parking lot, it’s a short distance to the water along a gently sloping ramp. Free parking, bathrooms, and picnic tables overlooking the Columbia River. Not suitable for boats shorter than 12 ft., inflatables, or beginner SUPS. Intermediate/advanced SUPs or canoes with flotation devices welcome.
