Narrative: We’ll paddle round-trip to Willamette Falls from the Cedar Oak Boat Ramp, with its brand-new dock. We’ll work a bit heading up to the falls, but it’s not difficult. We’ll tuck behind Cedar and Goat Islands going upstream. We’ll break for a snack on Goat Island. Sea lions are sometimes seen near the falls. The tide will be in our favor, with high tide around 4:30 p.m. We’ll get a little push going up to the falls, and we can enjoy the current assist returning.
There is generally a huge eddyline that’s fun to play in at what I’ll describe as the far end of the base of the falls. We won’t be venturing into any squirrely waters. We’ll be back at the boat ramp around 6:30 p.m., paddling 6-8 miles R.T. depending on our exact route. Maybe a beer or cider afterwards? I’m rating this a Level 2 for current and distance. Otherwise, it should be a mellow trip.
